Catholic Youth Retreat Centre in the Lake District

The team live together in community and minister to the 3,000 young people who visit Castlerigg every year from Catholic schools and parishes. Courses involve a range of activities: social, prayer, discussion groups, workshops and Lake District walks. We are looking for committed, praticing Catholics to join us:

Youth Tutors: These members of the team work with young people on courses. Experience of youth work would be an advantage and an appropriate level of education (usually degree level) is expected. 2-year training contract.

Successful applicants would join the resident team and receive a salary package of £14,000, consisting of a wage of £9,500 pa, in addition to board, accommodation and other benefits.

Gap Year Volunteers: 1-year post working with young people. Pocket money, accommodation, food and other facilities provided as well as great accommodation opportunities.

Comprehensive training is provided for all posts with the option to gain a youth work qualification.

Dealing with the public, you will:
• Organise and give talks at parishes, over 12 or 14 weekends per annum
• Make presentations to schools, colleges etc

You should have a thorough knowledge of the Catholic Church, be a confident communicator and enjoy telephone work and public speaking. Experience in these fields, or in sales, would be advantageous. Some computer skills and a full driving licence are essential.

HMP Wakefield is a high security prison for long-term male, Category A/B convicted adults. It is designated as a Main Lifer Centre with a maximum of 500 lifer places.

A post has become available at HMP Wakefield for a Roman Catholic Chaplain to fulfil faith-specific and generic duties. The appointment will be either Band One or Band Two level.

Applications are available from ordained priests, ordained deacons, religious Brothers/Sisters or suitable qualified lay people to join our team to provide pastoral and spiritual care for prisoners and staff.

Salary: Pay Band 1: £23,082 rising to £35,799
Pay Band 2: £20,277 rising to £31,447

Required for September 2008, a suitably experienced person to be part-time school chaplain in this successful 11-18 mixed Catholic comprehensive school. This is a key role, enabling the person to work at the heart of our community, providing pastoral support and having a liaison role with staff and members of the clergy, with oversight of the community chapel and liturgical resources. The chaplain will also work closely with the senior leadership team and governors, advising on strategic matters relating to chaplaincy. Candidates must be practising Catholics.
